Cooling in Greenhouses

Greenhouses are structures designed to provide optimal conditions for plant cultivation. However, high temperatures and humidity levels inside greenhouses can negatively impact plant health and growth. Therefore, greenhouse cooling systems play a vital role in maintaining ideal internal conditions by regulating temperature and humidity levels.

Function of Greenhouse Cooling Systems

Cooling systems ensure that plants remain within their optimal temperature range for growth. Excessive heat and humidity can cause plant stress, reduce flowering and fruit development, and promote the spread of diseases and pests. By maintaining ideal temperature and humidity levels, greenhouse cooling systems help improve plant health, productivity, and overall crop quality.

Types of Greenhouse Cooling Systems

  • Natural Ventilation:
This method relies on natural air movement and circulation. Openable windows, side vents, or roof panels allow fresh air to enter the greenhouse while warm air exits. It is a low-cost and energy-efficient cooling solution, especially effective in regions with favorable outdoor climate conditions.

  • Fans:
Fans installed inside the greenhouse enhance air circulation and cooling. They facilitate the intake of fresh air while expelling hot air, ensuring more uniform airflow throughout the greenhouse.

  • Misting Systems:
These systems spray fine water droplets into the greenhouse, increasing humidity and cooling the air through evaporation. The mist provides direct moisture to plants and reduces transpiration-related water loss. Additionally, circulating water vapor helps keep stomata open, enhancing photosynthesis efficiency.

  • Shade Curtains:
Specially designed fabric curtains installed inside the greenhouse reduce heat by blocking intense sunlight. These curtains can be positioned along the sides or roof of the greenhouse and adjusted as needed. This method is particularly effective in sunny regions as a means of passive cooling.
